Mapping the (stillness) Project by Susan Bickford, the KISMET Foundation’s 2020 Artist-in-Residence. 

The exhibition features Susan Bickford’s maps, charts, and drawings, all culled from the past six years of the (stillness) project, an annual interdisciplinary retreat which culminates in a collaborative place-based performance and feast in nature. This year, with the support of the KISMET Foundation, the (stillness) project will take place at Royal River Park on June 20. Movers, musicians, healers, astrologers, poets, videographers, foragers, cooks, a forest therapy guide, and a story teller will collaborate to weave their art forms into a unified sequence which winds its way through the park along the river. Of the project, Susan Bickford writes, “As we have migrated to different sites and waterways in Maine, making this work has shown us that all water is connected. In fact, this adage has become our underlying tenet.” She describes this year’s project as a homecoming, as she grew up in Yarmouth and lived here for 33 years, before moving to the midcoast region in 2007.

Mapping the (stillness) Project by Susan Bickford will be on view in the Stonewall Gallery through May 2. The Stonewall Gallery is located within Yarmouth History Center, 118 East Elm Street in Yarmouth, and is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10-5.
